The online bookmaker Betway has launched an initiative that will bring multiple esports competitions to fans.
Betway Arena will kick off with the King of the Hill. The event will offer quality Dota 2 action over the upcoming weeks.
What is King of the Hill?
King of the Hill is the first of many competitions running under the Betway Arena banner. The five-event series for Dota 2 will be hosted by the online video platform MoonduckTV.
This first set of Dota 2 games will feature a “winner stays on” format and best-of-five battles. The winning team will claim $5,000 and the spot for the next week’s match.
“I’m confident that the King of the Hill series will be a fantastic event, and the first match between Evil Geniuses and CompLexity Gaming is a mouth-watering prospect,” said Betway Director of Marketing and Operations Anthony Werkman.
Betway Arena succeeds events like Fight Night
Betway has already offered similar fare.
Last June, the esports bookmaker hosted an esports Fight Night. Alliance and Na’Vi, two of the world’s leading esports teams, went head to head for glory and a sweet prize. The winning sum of 5,000 EUR was donated to a charity of the winning team’s choice.
Last October, the company also entered into a partnership with the Swedish esports organization Ninjas in Pyjamas. The six-figure sponsorship put Betway’s logo on the team’s jerseys, while also giving the company exposure at the esports organization’s gaming facility.
Last August, Betway also became the first bookmaker to launch a dedicated esports portal. The company is serious about its esports business and is embracing the exponential growth the industry has shown in the last couple of years.
“Esports continues to grow beyond our expectations by featuring regularly in our daily top 10 sports for turnover, and the Betway Arena will give fans can’t miss events on the esports calendar for many months to come,” Werkman said.
